One of the top hotel and real estate development firms in Thailand, Dusit International, has announced that the redesigned flagship Dusit Thani Bangkok hotel will formally open to visitors on September 27, 2024, ushering in an exciting new era for the business both domestically and globally.
The Dusit Thani Bangkok, which was completely renovated from the bottom up as part of the Dusit Central Park mixed-use development, honors its 50-year history while raising the bar for opulent hospitality. With sophisticated travelers in mind, the hotel’s design aims to create new standards for both service and design, promising to make history once more.
Built on the same distinguished location as its predecessor, the new Dusit Thani Bangkok has one special quality that sets it apart: every one of its 257 opulent guest rooms has an unobstructed, spectacular view of Lumpini Park. Each guest room has elegant cantilevered window chairs that invite guests to fully immerse themselves in the breathtaking view.
The thoughtful redevelopment strategy of the hotel was recently announced at a media event held in Bangkok. Group CEO of Dusit International, Ms. Suphajee Suthumpun, emphasized the company’s dedication to fusing modern styles with the classic essence of the original Dusit Thani Bangkok, the tallest and most opulent structure in the city when it debuted in 1970.
“The original Dusit Thani Bangkok was a beloved landmark and a true ambassador of Thai hospitality for global travelers for over five decades,” Ms. Suthumpun stated. “We were dedicated to upholding that tradition while surpassing the expectations of today’s affluent patrons as we set out to reimagine it. This required skillfully maintaining original hotel features while fusing them with a modern, fresh aesthetic. We adhered strictly to the founders of Dusit, Thanpuying Chanut Piyaoui and Mr. Chanin Donavanik, whose vision was to present Thai culture, art, and cordial service in a way that appealed to modern tourists while still being flexible enough to accommodate changing tastes. Dusit continues to place a high priority on sustainability, and the operations and design of the new hotel demonstrate this dedication. In the end, our goal is to provide an unmatched guest experience while maintaining the friendliness and attentiveness that have long been associated with the Dusit Thani brand.
The primary design challenge for the new Dusit Thani Bangkok, according to Ms. Natapa Sriyuksiri, Managing Director, Dusit Estate and Group Creative Strategy, Dusit International, was to preserve the warmth and character of the previous hotel while guaranteeing a contemporary, fresh look.
“Our objective was to translate the soul of the original Dusit Thani Bangkok into a modern space that is equipped for the future,” Ms. Sriyuksiri stated. “We began by applying a contemporary perspective to the distinctive design features of the original hotel. This required examining the unique architecture and interiors of the hotel to find design elements that we could update or incorporate into future works.
Architects 49 International Limited and OMA Asia (Hong Kong) Limited founded Dragon Company Limited, a Thailand-based company, to design the new hotel, which pays homage to the distinctive design of its predecessor. Warm color tones and subdued traditional motifs are used in the exquisitely designed interiors by internationally renowned Asian interior design firm André Fu Studio, which skillfully combines the rich legacy of the original hotel with modern Thai aesthetics to create a fresh take on traditional Thai artistry and craftsmanship.
In keeping with the hotel’s rich history, the Thai interior design company P49 Deesign & Associates Co. Ltd created a distinctive “Heritage Floor” that pays homage to the original building’s character. Unique works of art by neighborhood artists, all of whom drew inspiration from the hotel’s history, adorn this floor.
Beyond only style, the renovated Dusit Thani Bangkok honors its history. The well-known golden spire of the original hotel has made a comeback and is now housed inside a brand-new, three-times larger spire. The paintings and murals from the original Benjarong Thai Restaurant of the hotel are also on display for visitors to admire. These include the restaurant’s major pillars, which were painstakingly disassembled and reassembled in the main lobby of the new hotel. Within the new hotel, the elaborately carved teak ceiling from the same restaurant has also been painstakingly restored and given new life.
“We’ve woven a connection between the hotel’s past and present, creating a timeless harmony guests will experience throughout the entire new hotel,” Ms. Sriyuksiri said. “We did this by reimagining elements from the original Dusit Thani Bangkok and focusing on exquisite craftsmanship throughout the entire design process – from architecture to décor to furnishings.”
The design of the new hotel was also impacted by the four main pillars of Dusit Graciousness, which drive the guest experience at Dusit Hotels and Resorts around the world: Service (personal and gracious), Locality (uniquely connecting guests to the local community), Well-Being (delivering wellness experiences beyond the spa), and Sustainability (social, economic, and environmental).
“Dusit Thani hotels are thoughtfully crafted to function as a distinctive representation of the communities they cater to, establishing hubs for visibility and interaction, and contributing significantly to the community’s well-being beyond the premises,” Ms. Sriyuksiri stated. The pinnacle of this dedication is the recently opened Dusit Thani Bangkok. We haven’t squandered any square inch of space in our quest for top-notch hospitality. We’ve taken great care to ensure that each area’s aesthetics serve as the backdrop for lifelong memories, with an unmatched Thai-inspired design that gets increasingly more modern until the building’s golden spire. Additionally, there is a true sense of theater. The hotel’s bright atmosphere is effortlessly connected to the adjacent Lumpini Park by large, open windows in the lobby and ballroom, which showcase the exciting events taking place within as well as the breathtaking cityscape. The new Dusit Thani Bangkok will stand out as a distinctive landmark and a true icon for a new era of Thai hospitality thanks to its creative design.
For a comprehensive visitor experience, the new Dusit Thani Bangkok integrates Feng Shui concepts in addition to aesthetics. “Our objective was to seamlessly blend state-of-the-art design with the heritage of the original hotel,” Mr. Somkiat Lo-Chindapong, Deputy Managing Director of Architects 49 Limited (A49), clarified. “This involved combining contemporary architecture with age-old Feng-Shui principles about wind and water.” This strategy is demonstrated by the building’s placement within Dusit Central Park, which guarantees that every guest room has a huge bay window with an opulent gold finish that provides unhindered views of Lumpini Park. These stunning views serve as “golden frames of memories,” bringing good vibes into the hotel and leaving a lasting effect on visitors.
There isn’t another building in Bangkok that quite like it, combining modern beauty with old-world charm. From the inside out, it is immediately identifiable as the Dusit Thani Bangkok. In addition, the forthcoming roof park at the center of Dusit Central Park and the park’s continuous link guarantee that nature is genuinely at the center of the visitor experience.
The new hotel has just 257 guest rooms, a deliberate decrease from its predecessor’s 517, emphasizing space to complete this opulent haven. The aforementioned André Fu Studio created these magnificent rooms, which start at an amazing 50 square meters, to perfectly combine modern luxury with classic elegance while distinctively framing the enormous park vistas beyond.
Apart from its opulent accommodations, the recently opened Dusit Thani Bangkok offers an exclusive urban wellness concept that extends beyond spa services. It also features 10 dining options, including new establishments designed in partnership with acclaimed chefs and mixologists. With more than 5,000 square meters of area set aside for meetings and events, the hotel is a great choice for business travelers and event coordinators. One of Bangkok’s biggest grand ballrooms, the centerpiece offers a panoramic view of Lumpini Park and a striking eight-meter ceiling. There are more conference rooms available to accommodate both small parties and big occasions.
The ultra-luxury Dusit homes and Dusit Parkside homes, a cutting-edge office tower, an upscale shopping center, and an 11,200 square meter Roof Park are among the other components of Dusit Central Park that are scheduled to debut in 2025.
